Inauguration ceremony of the FIFA Confederation Cup 2013, held at Brasilia’s National Stadium Mane Garrincha, in Brasilia, on Saturday with an awesome and colorful ceremony that lived up to what is expected of such a global showpiece. Approximately 2,800 performers, with excited crowd and everyone were held spell-bound as the opening ceremony unfolded. It was representative of the artistic showmanship of the Brazilians. The Nigeria’s Super Eagles have named their 23-man squad for the Confederations Cup 2013 Brazil. 8 home-based players made the list; four among all of them have never put on the Super Eagles jersey before. Here is the official list announced by FIFA: Goalkeepers:

Last weekend Nigerian international footballer, John Chukwudi Utaka married his heartthrob in France. Recently in the presence of well-wishers the Nigerian striker exchanged marital vows with his ‘white’ lover. Former England FC Portsmouth player John Utaka, unlike he didn’t achieve as much success with the club discrete when he played in France. Later he moved back to France in May 2012 where he won the league for Montpellier in a 2-1 win against Auxerre. Utaka two goals scored for Montepellier in the match. Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mike Umeh has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Lagos, following a warrant was declared by a Sokoto State High Court.

Vice President Umeh is collaborator in the case of money laundering and misuse of public funds of N15 billion, EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren told BBC Sport “It’s a case for which former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State is standing trial.”

Nigeria Super Eagles becomes the fourth Best African team in new ranking.

The Nigerian Super Eagles have moved up three places in the new FIFA rankings which announced today by the World football governing body and now occupy the 28th spot in the world.

The Coach Stephen Keshi tutored side previously ranked 31st in the world, in the April edition of the monthly rankings, were idle under the period under review but still moved up three places.
