Nigeria; $ .8m detained in the crackdown against corrupt judges

unit and security agencies have detained about eight hindered thousand dollars during an operation against the corrupt judges according to the news.

According to the anti-corruption unit, they have detained huge amount from the suspected judges and have also arrested many of them.

 On the other hand Nigerian bar council and lawyer organizations have demanded the release the judges calling it a victimization.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that government is working against corruption without any hesitation or discrimination.

 

In a statement, the DSS said: “The searches have uncovered huge raw cash of various denominations, local and foreign currencies, with real estate worth several millions of naira and documents affirming unholy acts by these judges.

“We have been monitoring the expensive and luxurious lifestyle of some of the judges as well as complaints from the concerned public over judgment obtained fraudulently and on the basis (of) amounts of money paid.”

Anti-corruption unit has confirmed that many of the judges were from high court and Supreme Court judges.

 

The statement said the judges were from the supreme, appeal and high courts. However the names of the arrested judges have not been disclosed. Reacting to the raids, the NBA called on President Buhari to “immediately caution all the state security agencies and to respect the rule of law”.
